While Tine’s parents (Erna & Hugo) were visiting us in Colombia, we joined them for a weekend Cartagena & Islas del Rosario. The beautiful – peaceful island is laying about 1 hour by boat from Cartagena and certainly worth a visit if you liking snorkeling, scuba diving or spending some time on a desolate island.
Since Erna & Hugo were on a 2-3 week tour in Colombia, everything was well organized by our Bogota friends Lotte and Daniel from Lulo Travel… for once, no need to find cheap buses or bargain discounts in hotels! Everything planned and taken care of.
We took the boat to Islas del Rosario after a 10 minutes (Uber) ride from the city center of Cartagena to Santa Cruz Pier where all the boats leave.
Since it was Hugo’s birthday weekend we were allowed to go for a comfy hotel – San Pedro de Majagua with it’s own private beach and beautiful suite cabins. From the hotel there’s a couple of nice walks (with/without guide) to the neighboring village, the mangroves and some other beaches.
In the 2 days we were on the island we enjoyed the beaches:
We did a bike tour around the island, finishing with a trip through the mangroves:
Had a nice birthday lunch, walk and dinner (inc. Tine with the famous Lulo Travel hat 😉 )
And on the last day we found a cheap option to go snorkeling with some locals (cheaper than the diving/snorkeling options offered by the hotel). Beautiful to see fish and corals in the transparant Caribbean water!
