Zipaquira & Sopo

Brrr! In October it can be cloudy and cold around Bogota. Therefor we went on a trip to do some rainy-day activities in Zipaquira and Sopo.

Inside the biggest Salt Cathedral of the world in Zipaquira, a salt mine 180m under the ground, there’s no light and it gets pretty hot down there. Pictures are difficult to take in the dark, but it’s worth a visit to this “salt mine + church”: a unique experience.

On Sunday we went to the Parque Ecológico Pionono in Sopo, which is half an hour by bus from Zipaquira. 100% nature: typical “páramo” vegetation in pastel colors, colibri birds, and 1 lone Colombian hiker… While bearing the cold temperatures, this nature reserve is a pleasure for the eye!
